Shiva… the band

One of the oldest rock bands in the country. The largest number of shows ever. Started out as Friends of Shiva in 1979, the name later got abbreviated to just Shiva.

Over the years some of the greatest musicians in the country have been part of Shiva…. Amyt, Kochoo, Jojo, Jeff, Viju, Sumit, PC, Lew, Boomba…. the list is endless.

The band can play any kind of music at any given time. According to PC, at any given time, they could perform from a repertoire of 300+ songs!

Sadly, this fantastic band does not have an original album to its credit. They had released an album called Classics, which had cover versions. Out of the original line-up, only Jeff, the drummer/vocalist remains now. They too had a stint in the Gulf playing at some Hotel on a regular basis.

Shiva… the show

Once again, Gujarathi Hall it was. It was in 1994. The sounds were Reynolds (but ofcourse!). The lights were done by Pushpa Sounds from Calicut. They did a decent job, especially as Vijay of Reynolds was doing the light mixing.

The range of songs…. my word… Everything I do, Home of the Brave, Born in the USA, Summer of 69, Sweet Child of mine, Two princes, November Rain, Cry for you, Living on the Edge, Green tinted 60’s mind, Give into Me, Eye in the Sky, Brick in the Wall, Roadhouse Blues…no originals, ofcourse…I have a tape of the show, may be one of these days I’ll put some of it on here in mp3 format.

Not much money made but we did more than break even.

Feroply was the main sponsor. Standard Tiles, Asma Towers and many others made it possible.

The line-up…. Viju George on vocals. PC Mukherjee and Sumit Ramachandran on lead/rhythm guitars, Boomba on keyboards, Lew Hilt on bass guitar, Jeffrey Rikhs on drums and vocals.
